"Sunny Boy" grid-tie inverters |
Our solar power system consists of seventy-two 150-watt modules for a total generating capacity of 7.5 kiliwatts of electricity during peak hours. It's a "grid-tie" system, meaning that there's no batteries—it's tied into the existing power grid, so if we generate more than we're using the extra energy goes back into the grid, and the electric meter runs backwards giving us automatic credit. This only happens on weekends when the studio is sometimes shut down. Unfortunately the studio is a bit of a power hog!
